Houston BCycle Adds Two New Bike Share Stations at 8th Wonder Brewery and Change Happens! Community Center

Houston BCycle, the city’s 635-bike, 95-station bike share system, has added two new stations to its network. The new stations are located at Change Happens! in Third Ward and 8th Wonder Brewery in East Downtown.
“Each of these new stations relates to a different core aspect of our bike share system,” said Executive Director Beth Martin. “The Change Happens! station expands our footprint in an underserved neighborhood and connects riders to key points of interest in the community, and the 8th Wonder Brewery station will link riders to a fun and burgeoning neighborhood in East Downtown.”

"Precinct One is proud to partner with Houston BCycle to bring a new station to Third Ward," said Harris County Precinct 1 Commissioner Rodney Ellis. "For many Third Ward families, our investments in safe, high-comfort bike lanes and affordable bike share via Houston BCycle will improve their quality of life and open up new opportunities to succeed.” Commissioner Ellis also provided funding support for already-installed stations at University of Houston and Texas Southern University.
Coinciding with the new station at Change Happens!, BCycle will be launching an equity-focused pilot in partnership with Change Happens! that will offer a reduced-fare membership and cash payment option for qualified individuals (details to be released in mid-August). Nearby stations are located at Emancipation Park, Project Row Houses, University of Houston, and Texas Southern University.

Our station will allow riders to connect with stations at other neighborhood fixtures like TSU, Project Row Houses, and Emancipation Park, providing a sustainable and healthy way for residents to travel through our neighborhood and beyond. Not only is this a wonderful opportunity to make bike share more accessible, it will ultimately help improve the quality of life for Third Ward residents."
8th Wonder Brewery
An 8th Wonder Brewery station at Dallas & Hutchins adds much-needed connectivity to the burgeoning East Downtown neighborhood. With a busy station down the street at Rusk & St. Emanuel, BCycle riders now have options for docking on the North and South ends of the popular restaurant and bar strip. Connectivity to the Lamar/Polk Cycle track will benefit riders and offer protected travel into Downtown.
“As Houstonians look for more mobility options, East Downtown is happy to include bicycling in the mix,” said Gordon Quan, Chair of the East Downtown TIRZ. “We are proud to support Houston BCycle.”
Local funding partners for the new stations included Change Happens!, Harris County Precinct One Commissioner Rodney Ellis, 8th Wonder Brewery, East Downtown Management District and East Downtown TIRZ. Funds from Houston BCycle’s federal grant were also used to support the recent installations.
